They first became friends at a Halloween party, her dressed as Pebbles and him as a pimp. Despite insistence from a mutual friend, Dana wasn’t interested in dating Tyler because he just wasn’t her “type”.
After a little more {gentle} nudging from her best friends, Dana finally gave Tyler a chance. Now she probably never doubts her friends’ judgment because they’ve been inseparable ever since – through thick and thin – including the devastating tornadoes that ravaged their home state of Alabama just a month before their wedding.
Thankfully, they had planned their wedding in Savannah, GA. And even with all the stresses back home and a forecast that threatened more bad weather, they seemed to truly enjoy their big day and it went off without a hitch. Well, except for that part where they actually got “hitched”!
My fabulous second photographer Sonya Yim and I met the wedding party at their historic (and reportedly haunted) host hotel, the Kehoe House.
Dana started the day as a three-shoe bride! She simply could not decide on which shoes to wear. Honestly, I don’t blame her. I have a serious shoe problem myself.
Which ones do you think she ultimately picked? Keep reading to find out!
Dana and Tyler’s proposal story is one of those not-so-perfect experiences that turns into a really adorable story as time passes. Upon receiving Dana’s father’s blessing (like a true southern gentlemen), Tyler took her out to eat at what used to be a great Italian restaurant. After some terrible service and a really bad meal of soured tea and rubber scallops, he got down on one knee in the parking lot of the restaurant (he thought it too bad of an experience inside to give them the honor of being where he proposed). In retrospect, the parking lot proposal was completely appropriate because they first met in parking lot!
Alright, so which shoes did you think Dana would choose? If you picked the green ones, you were right! In fact, many aspects of the wedding had green in it. Makes sense considering the color is now Dana’s new married surname!
There’s always that moment during the wedding planning when a bride truly recognizes becoming a bride. My moment was the first time I went dress shopping. Dana’s moment was right after her friends helped her put the finishing touches on her wedding day ensemble.
Just across the hall, Dana’s hubs-to-be was getting ready.
Dana and Tyler opted for a first look, so we scouted a spot in the square just across from the Kehoe House and let the magic unfold.
We finished up formals and headed back across the street to the Davenport House Museum to get ready for the ceremony (I love not having to travel far between wedding day events!). It was amazing to see the garden transform into whimsical wedding right before our eyes thanks to the quick work of Savannah Special Events.
Dana’s vision for her wedding is swoon-worthy. I especially love her DIY pinwheels!
Pretty soon, it was time for the ceremony to begin. Even the guests seemed to echo the bright colors of the whimsical wedding.
I absolutely adore this image my second shooter caught of Dana and her father just before walking down the aisle.
The photo on the right cracks me up. If you get married outdoors in Savannah, expect onlookers. You’re seriously a celeb for the day!
I know that look Dana is giving Tyler! That’s the “you’re officially MINE” look of triumph!
And to celebrate making it official, the newlyweds took a victory lap around the ’roundabout in the garden! Too cute!
The wedding cake was made of miniature lemon and strawberry cakes. And the punch? Best I’ve ever had! I gushed about it so much that Dana sent over her mother’s recipe shortly after the wedding. LOVE my clients!
We strayed a bit from my normal photography schedule and did family formals after hors d’oeuvres. Luckily, no one spilled punch on their clothes.![]()
Stayed tuned to see more of Dana and Tyler from their Day After Romantics session!
